Welcome President Obama, Welcome!
01/20/09

The people of the United States of America and millions around the world congratulate you on becoming the 44th President of America and more importantly, on kindling hope in mankind and a more peaceful world. We fully understand the difficulties you have to surmount but we are equally hopeful that you will be the man of your word and not disappoint the people of America and the world. We wish you best of luck. The Bush era duped the people by fear and the words “terror, Al Qaeda, etc.” We hope you will remember the whole of humanity.
We also understand the trust people made by electing President Bush, twice who turned out to be a total disappointment in all spheres, internally or externally. From disastrous wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to total destruction of the economy seems to be the biggest accomplishments of Mr. Bush. Unfortunately our brilliant Congressmen turned out to be no better than Mr. Bush as they supported all his mishaps. Similarly, elected Parliaments of the rest of the world, especially Europe, were also swayed or intimidated to follow Mr. Bush’s vendetta. Our media and judiciary also disappointed its own citizens and the world by supporting immoral policies and not fulfilling their professional and constitutional responsibilities. The end result is a total disaster that distorted our history and destroyed our good image at home and abroad. If these institutions had worked according to their responsibilities, with sincerity to the constitution rather than an individual, we probably would have not seen this disgraceful day. But our elected people did not have the courage to stand up for the American people, and all but a handful of Congress went along with the violations of international law.
We, the people of United States want to remind you about your slogan of “change”. You promised the American people and the world that you will look at the current situation in the world, from Palestine to Chechnya, Somalia, North Korea, Iran and Kashmir, with a different perspective. We strongly urge that you keep that promise and make it a top priority along with the economy. We want those who violated our laws to be held accountable, not as a witch hunt but because all officials must serve the constitution and law, or face accountability. As long as the elected congresspersons spend more for wars and occupations than health care and education, change will not come. Journalists and academics have not done their jobs either. Open the record, files of the last years, and hold accountable all those who allowed the country to be dragged down to the current state of depressed economic and spiritual morale. We ask that our Congress, media, and civil society fulfill their responsibilities with integrity and honesty. The Judiciary must not be complacent about its responsibility from stopping renditions to torture, making unnecessary arrests to deportation of law-abiding people and holding people at Guantanamo Bay without charge or right to appeal their incarceration. The Congress must fulfill its responsibility to sway the President from supporting dictators of the world or attacking sovereign nations. When our own Dictator, General Musharraf was in New York, Chicago, Michigan, and California, we in New York collected & showed him our shoes, as the Guard of Dishonor, to say how disgraced was his rule. (January 26, Philadelphia, Franklin Institute). Musharraf and Bush policies gave us nothing other than disgrace, dishonor and mortification. Such acts should not be repeated.

Dr. Muhammad Shafique Mr. Shahid Comrade
President General Secretary
