Honorable Yusuf Raza Gilani

Prime Minister of Pakistan

Islamabad, Pakistan

Hon. Gilani Sahib:

On behalf of the Pakistani community in the United States and the people of this great nation we congratulate you for becoming the elected Prime Minister of Pakistan after 9 long years of dictatorship, a dark period in the history of Pakistan. After many years of incarceration by dictator Musharraf, God have finally given you the opportunity to fulfill the promises of Benazir Bhutto with the people of Pakistan and live up to the desires of helpless people of Pakistan.

We hope that your government will create an atmosphere that will be good for student, labor, women and minority rights activists. The government must resolve to disclose the whereabouts of all people who have gone missing during the Musharraf regime. Pakistan, under the new government, must play a productive role in improving relationships with neighboring countries, especially India.

Your honor this is the shiniest moment for the people of Pakistan because they have their elected government in office. However, the Pakistani community living abroad as well as in Pakistan is getting disillusioned due to some decisions taken by your government, especially some recent appointments of General Musharraf’s cronies at the highest positions.

We demand the immediate resignation of the Air Chief Marshall Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed, who was responsible the repeated failing to protect Pakistani air space from U.S. and NATO warplanes. We also request your honor that:

1. The Ministers must not be allowed to hold party positions and they must immediately resign from party positions so that they could serve people as full time.

2. The news media must be allowed to work freely and without any constraints. There should be no constraints on Geo, ARY or other TV programs per desires of General Musharraf.

3. Ambassadors appointed overseas must belong to the Pakistan Diplomatic Corps and must have lived in Pakistan for a period of 5 years.

4. Posts in embassies and consulates should not be given to active-duty or retired Army personnel.

5. No one should be appointed Ambassador who has obtained amnesty through NRO. Such people are not trustworthy and have no interest to serve Pakistani community.

6. Pakistani embassies in the west must help Pakistanis living abroad with their immigration problems and advise them in the case of unnecessary arrests and deportation hearings. Embassies should negotiate with their host countries to allow Pakistani students to enroll in their colleges and universities.

7. All personnel in embassies and consulates appointed by or serving during the eight-year Musharraf regime must be recalled and replaced with competent civil servants that have no ties to the Musharraf regime.

8. Appointment of General Durrani, a well known Musharraf crony, as your Advisor is an insult of 160 millions of Pakistanis. He must be terminated immediately.

9. The chancellors and vice chancellors of our educational institutions must all be civilians rather than military personnel.

10. Poverty has grown tremendously in Pakistan during the dictatorship of Pervez Musharraf. This issue must be addressed as a top priority and these people must be provided relief immediately.

11. The problem of Baluchistan has become very serious in the past 9 years. Thousands of people has been killed, injured or displaced from their homes. Their grievances must be resolved to save Pakistan.

12. The government must not abandon Kashmir Cause like Musharraf.

President General Secretary
